Lee-Ann Van Wees and Rubelyn Smith, Honourary Co-Chairs and the Zonta Club of Woodstock welcomes you to join us, whether a serious golfer or not, to the 25th Annual Zonta Golf Classic's WAWZA (Women Around The World with Zonta).
A few hours on the golf course means time to appreciate friendships, have a few laughs, exercise, relax & enjoy the beauty of Craigowan Golf Club, while knowing you are helping to make a difference in the lives of women and girls in Oxford County. To date we have raised over $450,000!
Zonta’s mandate is to advocate for women locally and internationally. Here in Oxford County our club’s service committee identifies a wide range of challenges women face and accesses where there are gaps in funding.
Examples of how 2021 ZGC funds were distributed include:
· Family violence counselling
· Trauma counselling & sexual assault therapy
· Meal programs for broken families
· Supplying Chemo Comfort kits & Hygiene products at Woodstock Hospital
· Healthy relationship awareness for pre-teen girls
· Partnering with DART during 16 Days of Activism
Over the past twenty-five years, the Zonta Club of Woodstock successfully raised over $450,000 for the Oxford Community. We hope we can count on you to support us for our 25th anniversary. History of the Zonta Golf Classic
Women Golfing for Women
The history of the Zonta Golf Classic started in 1997. The concept came from the ZC of Kitchener-Waterloo to honour the passing of Betty Thompson due to breast cancer. The Classic was initially held at the Ingersoll Golf Course, then moved to Craigowan, Woodstock’s semi-private golf club. Recently, the course was made semi-private and renamed Cardinal Golf Group, Craigowan. For many years the sole focus of the Classic was to support breast cancer research and the women in Oxford County fighting the disease. When London Health Sciences took on primary breast cancer treatment, our club elected to support the health and wellness of women and girls in our community. In addition, to sponsoring three post-secondary school bursaries for students residing in Oxford County.
Our club has been successful in hosting this popular women’s golf tournament, offering golfers a fun day on a beautiful golf course, dinner, and an amazing community supported prize table & silent auction to increase fundraising efforts.
Our club’s Women Golfing for Women Zonta Golf Classic is celebrating 25 years in June 2023.
To date, the Women Golfing for Women Zonta Golf Classic has raised more than $450,000 and continues to support many women-focused initiatives, programs, and organizations in Oxford County.
